Postcard slot terms and conditions

Version 1.0 · last updated 28 September 2026 · these terms apply to advertising slots on any The Central Belt postcard.

These terms sit alongside the general terms of use and privacy policy for thecentralbelt.com. Your free directory listing is governed by those, not by this page. Nothing here affects a free listing.

1. What a slot is

1.1 A slot is the right to place one advertisement on one Central Belt postcard for one drop — an A4 card, printed both sides, carrying twelve advertising slots, six a side, delivered to the households in the postcode sectors named for that drop.

1.2 One business per trade per card. If you hold the plumber's slot, no other plumbing business appears on that card for that drop.

1.3 That is the whole of the exclusivity. A slot is not exclusivity in your town, your category or the directory. Other businesses of your trade remain listed on thecentralbelt.com and may appear on other cards.

1.4 A slot is an advertising position, not a service. Nothing in these terms obliges us to deliver any particular volume of enquiries, calls, orders or revenue.

2. Price

2.1 £350 a slot.

2.2 £199 a slot where the advertiser also holds sponsored placement on thecentralbelt.com (£199 a month) and has paid at least two consecutive months of it.

2.3 Prices are confirmed in writing in the slot offer before payment, and payment is taken only after you accept that written offer. No slot is reserved until payment is received.

3. The print gate

3.1 Nothing is printed, booked or distributed until the bookings for that drop are in and paid.

3.2 If the card does not reach the required number of paid bookings by the agreed date, no print run happens and no money is taken or kept — see clause 7.

3.3 The required number of paid bookings for a twelve-slot card is ten. That number is set by us and may change between drops.

4. First refusal

4.1 A business that has held sponsored placement for at least two consecutive paid months holds first right of refusal on a slot on the card for its own area, ahead of open sale.

4.2 The window is 14 days from the written offer, with one reminder at day 10. If we have no reply by the deadline, the slot is released to open sale and the right for that drop lapses.

4.3 The previous advertiser of a trade slot holds the same 14-day refusal on that slot for the next drop in that area.

4.4 First refusal is an offer, not a reservation, and not a discount. The price in clause 2 still applies.

4.5 Every offer and every reply is recorded, so who was offered what, and when, is provable.

5. Artwork, approval and content

5.1 You supply your logo and the wording you want printed, in the format we ask for.

5.2 We lay out the card and send you the layout for approval. Nothing prints until you approve it in writing.

5.3 You confirm that everything you send us is yours to use, is accurate and is lawful — including any claim about your prices, qualifications, accreditations, insurance or guarantees.

5.4 We may refuse or remove any advertisement that is misleading, unlawful, offensive, or that breaches an advertising code. If we refuse after payment, see clause 7.3.

5.5 We do not accept advertiser-supplied print-ready files for the final card; it is produced from our own layout.

5.6 No street address is printed for any advertised business on the card.

6. Delivery, evidence and what is not promised

6.1 Delivery is by Royal Mail through our distribution partner, to the postcode sectors named in your offer — 10,000 homes unless a different number is confirmed in writing for that drop.

6.2 We publish the certificate of distribution for the drop once it has run.

6.3 We do not promise any number of enquiries, responses, calls, orders or sales, and no refund is due on the basis of a poor response.

6.4 Shared mailers of this kind typically produce 0.1%–0.2% response. That is the industry range, not a forecast and not a commitment.

6.5 The household count is a delivery-point figure for the named sectors, not a whole-town count.

7. Cancellation, refunds, and if we cancel or move a drop

7.1 You may cancel any time before we go to print and receive a full refund.

7.2 Once the card has gone to print, the slot fee is not refundable.

7.3 If we cancel the drop, or refuse your advertisement under clause 5.4, you receive a full refund within 14 days.

7.4 If we have to move the drop, your slot rolls over automatically to the same area's next drop, or you may take a full refund on request.

8. Data

8.1 Door drops are unaddressed: no household list and no personal data are involved in the drop.

8.2 If someone responds to your advertisement, they contact you directly. We are not part of that exchange and we pass you no data we do not lawfully hold.

9. Liability

9.1 Our total liability to you under these terms is limited to the slot fee you have paid.

9.2 We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit or lost opportunity.

10. Who you are contracting with

10.1 These terms are between you and ScotReach, a sole trader in Scotland trading as The Central Belt.

10.2 Governing law is the law of Scotland, and the Scottish courts have exclusive jurisdiction.

10.3 Notices: hello@thecentralbelt.com.

10.4 Slots are sold only to persons aged 18 or over acting for a business.

10.5 Payment for a slot is taken through Stripe under the product name The Central Belt postcard (location), and the funds are received by ScotReach.
